How to play Connect 4

Take turns dropping discs into the grid. Line up four of your colour in a row to win.

    You are one colour

    You drop the red discs, the other player drops the yellow ones. Red goes first, then you take turns.

    Click a column to drop

    Tap any of the seven columns. Your disc falls straight down and lands on the lowest empty spot.

  3. 3

    Line up four

    Try to get four of your discs in a row. It can go across, up and down, or slanted like a staircase.

  4. 4

    Block the other player

    Watch their colour too. If they have three in a row, drop a disc to plug the gap before they get four.

  5. 5

    Set up two threats

    Make two different lines of three at once. The other player can only block one, so the other one wins.

How you win

Be the first to get four of your colour in a row, in any direction, to win. If the board fills up with no four in a row, it is a draw.

Play the middle columns early - they join up in more directions.
