Drop orbs into cells. Fill a cell to its critical mass and it explodes into its neighbours, turning them your colour and setting off a chain.

    You are one colour

    You play the blue orbs, the other side plays red. Blue goes first, then you take turns adding one orb each.

    Drop an orb

    Tap an empty cell or a cell you already own to add one orb. You can never add an orb to a cell the other colour owns.

    Watch the critical mass

    Each cell fills up to a limit: 2 in a corner, 3 on an edge, 4 in the middle, because that is how many neighbours it has.

    Fill it to make it burst

    When a cell reaches its limit it explodes, sending one orb to each neighbour and turning every neighbour into your colour.

    Chain the reaction

    If a neighbour that just got an orb now hits its own limit, it explodes too. One good move can flip a whole corner of the board.

How you win

Once both players have moved, wipe every orb of the other colour off the board. The last colour left standing wins.

Corners and edges are safer to build on because they need fewer orbs before they burst, so keep them just below the limit and pop them when the other colour comes close.

How to play Chain Reaction online

Chain Reaction is a two-player strategy board game where you drop orbs onto a grid and overload cells to trigger explosions that cascade across the board and convert your opponent's cells to your colour. Every cell has a critical mass equal to its number of orthogonal neighbours, so a corner holds 2 orbs, an edge cell holds 3, and an interior cell holds 4. On your turn you add one orb to an empty cell or a cell you already own, never to a cell the opponent owns. When a cell reaches its critical mass it explodes, sending one orb to each neighbour and turning every cell it feeds into your colour, and if a neighbour then reaches its own critical mass it explodes too, chaining a reaction that can flip large parts of the board in a single move. After both players have made at least one move, a player left with no orbs on the board is eliminated and the other player wins.
