How do you play Minesweeper?
Click cells to reveal them. Numbers show how many mines touch that cell. Use logic to determine safe cells. Right-click to flag suspected mines. Win by revealing all non-mine cells!
What do the numbers mean?
Each number indicates how many mines are in the 8 adjacent cells (horizontally, vertically, and diagonally). A "1" means one adjacent mine, "2" means two, etc. Empty cells have no adjacent mines.
Is the first click always safe?
Yes! The mines are placed after your first click, ensuring that cell and its neighbors are always safe. This gives you a starting point to begin deducing mine locations.
What are the difficulty differences?
Beginner: 9x9 grid with 10 mines (12% density). Intermediate: 16x16 grid with 40 mines (16% density). Expert: 30x16 grid with 99 mines (21% density). Higher difficulties require more careful analysis.
Do I need to flag all mines to win?
No! You only need to reveal all safe cells. Flags are optional tools to help you track suspected mines, but the win condition is based solely on revealing non-mine cells.
