📖 How to play

How to play Minesweeper

Reveal the safe squares and stay away from the hidden mines. The numbers tell you where the mines are.

  1. 1

Tap a square to open it

Tap any square to reveal what is under it. Your very first tap is always safe, so start anywhere and a whole area opens up.

  2. 2

    Numbers count the mines

A number on a square tells you how many mines are touching it, in all 8 squares around it. A 1 means one mine is next to it, a 2 means two, and so on.

  3. 3

Use the numbers to find safe squares

Look at a number and the hidden squares around it. If a 1 already has one mine found, every other square next to it is safe to open.

  4. 4

    Flag the mines

When you are sure a square hides a mine, mark it with a flag. Right-click on a computer, or press and hold on a phone.

  5. 5

    Clear every safe square

Keep opening the squares you know are safe. You do not need to open the mines - just reveal everything that is not a mine.

How you win

Open every safe square without ever tapping a mine to win. A faster time beats your best score for that board.

Your first tap can never be a mine, so click into the middle to open a big area.

Stuck? A square touching a 0 is always safe - 0s open their neighbours for you automatically.

Practice one pattern

Choose one skill to improve each round: timing, accuracy, board planning, or mistake recovery. Focused practice beats random replaying.
